Sandstone Volunteer

The Sandstone Volunteers Association

Over the years since Sandstone’s first event , The Great 100 in 1999, we have had many volunteers assist us with restorations and operations, more often in events but not always. We are drawing all the volunteers together in The Sandstone Volunteers Association and have recently mailed those for whom we have current contact details but we are sure we have missed someone. Our first Newsletter is on our website together with an introductory letter. Click her to see it.

There is no need to join our association, just let us who you are and what you have assisted with or would like to assist us with. We have also included a list of some of our volunteers for whom we have no current email contacts. If you know someone one the list, please let us know! We know our recent mailer will have missed someone!

Sandstone Media Review

In the Press

The magic button for the ”In the Press” section which covers all our media mentions is just below the main home page image on the Sandstone site. Over the recent weeks we have done a major revamp on the site to bring together all the media mentions we have had over the last few years since the web site began in 2005. To celebrate this we have put together a short Media Review of the latest stories which we know you will enjoy! Click here to see the review then click on the magic button, “in the Press” to see our varied media coverage since 2005.

Old Glory Mag
Old Glory March 2023

Our upcoming Easter Steam and Cosmos Festival, in April 2023, has received a couple of mentions in the latest edition of Old Glory magazine together with a short write up on our Cherry Festival Event last November. One article is in the Vintage World section by Derek Rayner, which also covers a story on a South African Aveling & Porter portable engine at Springs near Johannesburg. The main magazine also features the new Sandstone book, “The Sandstone Steam Railway, the story continues”  which receives a favourable review. Our thanks to Old Glory magazine for this excellent coverage!

Sandstone Steam Railway Collection

We are often asked for information on the locomotives and rolling stock at Sandstone. We have published regular stock lists for the last few years and now that we have moved all our 3’6” gauge locomotives to Sandstone we have put together a picture gallery of all our locomotives and rolling stock. 3’6” gauge wagons and coaches is still in production and will be posted soon.
