Our first event for 2025 will be The Cosmos Easter Festival. Enjoy a train ride behind double headed NGG16 Garratts for the first time since 2019 on our refurbished Vailima section. The 1913 built NG4 tank locomotive will be running an airport shuttle service to Grootdraai from Hoekfontein and Seb’s Railway will be in full operation on the game camp line.
As part of our cooperation agreement with the South African Armour Museum we recently received two new display vehicles for our collection, a Comet Tank and a PT-76 Amphibious Tank.
Sandstone’s close relationship with the SA Armour Museum goes back 22 years to January 2003 when this partnership was formalised. Brigadier General Andre Retief (Ret), then Officer Commanding of the School of Armour, was the driving force behind this partnership which has flourished to this day.
The pride that we have in our Oxen at Sandstone is well known and we have drawn together a gallery of some of our “Elder Statesman”. As you can see, many are 9 years old with the eldest, Staline, at 10 years old.
