A week on the Sandstone Steam Railroad Narrow Gauge system

Steaming Sandstone Railway!

01

We lit up Sandy early last Sunday morning and once again she performed her duties with pride and eagerness. For a little locomotive like this, she has quite a giant beat and on a steady pace she echoed her voice into the majestic Maluti Mountains forming a heavenly backdrop on the South side of our great Railway.

Once again she caught the eye and the harts of the passengers that will not ever forget the experience behind her. She was happy to get out of the shed and greats the cloudy skies with her white steaming exhaust.

The end of the journey, the end of a great day!

Between the hectic boiler inspections, we really did steam on the Sandstone Steam Railway. A special locomotive not often used was steamed for a trip to Grootdraai and back. Our Avonside, Sizella was steamed on Wednesday afternoon and was accompanied by Wilfred Mole and Tommy Wille. One of our open coach ex cattle wagons was used for a unforgettable ride to Grootdraai just before the end of a great day.

This however, was not the last to see from Sandy. She was so eager that she took another train later the week over the line, heading towards Lesotho.

A group of 30 people visited the Farm this week and demanded a ride behind our little Sugar cane locomotive. Impatiently she waited to depart on a 5Km journey to Grootdraai and back. Slowly she puffed her gentle beats on a round trip and performed her duties with pride. She will be used more often from now on.

Driver Henk de Bruin and fireman Derrick van Zyl was behind the controls of this little Giant.

The passengers then were taken on a journey on the farm. They enjoyed the day thoroughly and can't wait to return next year.
