The Pongola Sugar Estate had a tramway system that survived until 1984, being closed after the devastation of Cyclone Demoina. Many of its locos were sold to Umfolozi Cooperative Sugar Planters at Mtubatuba, including these two units which were bought subsequently by Alfred County Railway (ACR). When Sandstone acquired the three Bagnall diesels from ACR, they also acquired the two 2’6” gauge units. They are currently both at the Bloemfontein facility of Sandstone awaiting a decision as to their future, either to be regauged to 2ft and restored, or sold as is to a 2’6” gauge operator. Both are in poor condition as a result of standing in the corrosive sea air at Port Shepstone.

"Nhlathu" and "Mamba" ready for transport to Sandstone, at Port Shepstone.
