HTN 37 - Sandstone moves metal

Sandstone Heritage Trust - News

The Sandstone Heritage Trust has four heavy duty long haul trucks. Two Freightliner Argosys, a Kenworth T900, and a MAN abnormal load tractor for the 4-axle low bed Model number 27.423.

With a wide variety of trailers to choose from the organisation can configure the trucks in the correct way for every application. For example, we recently attended the Villiersdorp National Vintage Tractor & Engine Show in the Western Cape. Our pictures show the configuration.
These pictures were taken on the return journey.

Below, photographed left to right include: Neels Booyens, Wilfred Mole, Charles Viljoen, Leon Flynn and Chris Wilson.
What is of particular significance is Chris drove the 1953 International with his own vehicle loaded on the back all the way from Villiersdorp back to Sandstone without a hitch, without a heater in the middle of winter, and with a smile on his face the whole way.

There are not many vehicles from 1953 which could do this. Well done to Chris and to Jannie du Toit who used it for many years on his farm and who looked after it so well.

Oom Jannie, we will look after your treasure for you.
