Weekly report 26-Sept-2008 to 02-Oct-2008

Ratanga 6

Wouter has been busy fitting the wood panels and arm rests on the sides of the wagon. It is coming along nicely.

Wouter also used his own initiative and placed a few wooden poles on the sides. He varnished the one side of the coach just to see how it would look like and I must say NOT TOO BAD. We will have to wait for the final approval of the idea.

 Cleaning of store area

The cleaning of the store area in the back of the steam shed is also well on its way. Oom Stoom is in charge of the cleaning operation. He removed every thing and is now busy repacking and sorting all the material.

The Hunslet diesel loco

Something that wasn’t on the list for this week was the Hunslet diesel loco. Derick replaced the broken van belt and set the brakes on the loco to shunt NGG16A No.141 out

NGG16A No.141

Derick and Kevin shunted NGG16A No.141 out of the wagon shed to where we will start with the cosmetic up-grade of the loco.

B-bogie restoration

Another new project that was started this week is the restoration (not cosmetically) of a few B-bogies for the harvesting in early next year. We should be able to do close to ten, but only time will tell

Next week

  • Finishing with the cleaning of store area.

  • Continuing with Ratanga No. 6.

  • Start with the dismantling, cleaning and painting of NGG16A No.141.

  • Continuing with the B-bogie restoration.

  • Preparation for and train trip on Thursday the 9th of October
