Steam in
Action!
"Avril"
stands in Fouriesburg with her driver proudly at the helm.

Chat time at
Hoekfontein. Kalahari NG15 No 17 about to depart to the loco shed.

The
big and the small. This little tank loco is dwarfed by an NGG13
Garratt, itself the baby in the SAR Garratt family.

The
steamy atmosphere pervades the cab of NG4 No 16 on a cold damp
afternoon.

No
16 is all business. This chunky tak loco has a military look about
her as she departs the sheds.

The
Sandstone touch. Vintage transport taking you back 60 years..

Wind,
water and coal. Earthly elements combine.

No
3052 resting at Ficksburg after her trip.

Early
morning activity at the loco shed. The dampness of the previous
afternoon is still evident as the first rays cut across the rails.

In
the shed- dramatic early light filters through the roof as the
Garratt fetches her trucks.

A
special moment at Grootdraai- the sun peaks out to illuminate No 17
"between the trees"

No
113 at night in Hoekfontein. Swirling steam bathes the engine as she
prepares to return to her shed after a long successful weekend..

NG15
taking the balloon at Grootdraai.

The
highlight of the photographic session- the first glint of the Sunday
sun off the steel of a beautiful machine.

Kalahari
storms out of Grootdraai.

Plane
and train meet at Grootdraai, with the cloud-covered Malutis in the
background.

Stationary
engine in full steam.

Parade
assembly at Hoekfontein on Saturday afternoon.

Grootdraai
silhouette. Double Garratts depart while No 17 waits her turn.

Smoke
and signals. the Kalahari storms into Hoekfontein.
