Ex Sena Sugar, Marromeu Peckett 0-6-0ST

By the end of the Second World War Sena Sugar needed to renew some of its loco fleet, many of which were Feldbahns of First World War vintage. As Sena was, at that time, British owned it was no surprise that the order was placed with a British company, namely Peckett & Sons Ltd. of Bristol. After the success of an initial two units delivered in 1949, a further three examples were ordered in 1952. They were of the 8" x 12" type, the description relating to the size of the cylinders. With works numbers 2143 to 2145 they were numbered 11, 12 and 13 at Sena having been delivered in January and February of 1953. They were joined by another example, works number 2161, Sena number 14, in 1957.

With the onset of civil war production at Sena ceased and the railway fell into disuse. In 1999-2000, Sena was reopened with new Mauritian owners and many locos were sold to the UK. The Pecketts were retained for the reopening of the rail system but this never happened and subsequently the locos were offered for sale.
