The Durban Miniature Railway
By Andries Keyser

Back in the day, way way before my time, there once was a miniature railway that ran along the Durban Beachfront. The story is a complete mystery to me and many others, however in my collection of old pictures I have found some brilliant images depicting these steam engines running along the esplanade.

One can only image what Durban must have been like at the time, the vintage cars in the background against the skyline of the fresh buildings.

I have no technical detail of this line, things like gauge, distance of the line, loco builders ect.

And then of course the big question... What happened to this Durban Miniature Railway???

If you were around at the time and memory has not completely faded, please let me know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Also I have no record of who took these pictures, some of the came from the great model builder, the late Dick Collier.
